Monaco Hold Positive Balogun Talks With Arsenal

Folarin Balogun emerged as one of Reims’ star performers last season on loan from Arsenal Academy graduate Folarin Balogun’s loan at Reims; however, his position will likely be challenged in north London clubs such as Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah and Leandro Trossard as they all vie for playing time at center forward positions.

Monaco have been reported as being in positive talks with Arsenal to sign USMNT striker Alec Kann, but what exactly are they seeking in return?

Sky Sports report

Balogun, 22, has already been linked with an unexpected move to Chelsea after their recruitment team made contact. Mikel Arteta wants more depth for their bloated squad and his ability to burst through, run rings around goalkeepers and hit back-posts at speed has caught recruiters across Europe’s attention.

Reims midfielder Paul Bouchard stood out defensively as well, including with his last-ditch equaliser against PSG that earned them an unlikely draw against them in Reims 2-1 win against PSG and earning him selection to the World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Greece as well as inclusion into Euros squads.

His breakthrough season attracted interest from various clubs, with Inter Milan initially showing an affinity before shifting focus elsewhere. But Monaco could give him his shot to prove himself in Ligue 1, as they have held constructive negotiations with Arsenal regarding a summer deal.

The Gunners are willing to sell

Folarin Balogun may have impressed during his season-long loan at Reims from Arsenal’s academy and made it clear he will not settle for sitting behind Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah in Mikel Arteta’s first team.

The Gunners should accept an offer for frontman Jack Wilshere without hesitation and expect a decent fee in return. His value has decreased over time and it is unlikely they will recoup anything near what they paid in 2021.

If the player needs to move, a club in either Serie A or Premier League would provide him with optimal development conditions, providing regular game time as well as access to coaches who can assist him with honing his skills.

Chelsea are interested

Folarin Balogun’s performance during his loan season at French Ligue 1 club Reims has caught the eye of several clubs throughout Europe – former Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta is now playing for Chelsea so his interest could also extend there.

The Blues are prepared to invest heavily in Hale End graduate’s career and hope he makes the move overseas permanently.

Latest reports indicate that talks between both sides have progressed positively, with personal terms understood to have been agreed in principle. Negotiations over transfer fee and payment structure is currently taking place; Monaco are unlikely to reduce their asking price significantly from what has been estimated by Gunners at around PS50million; north London club may prefer not selling him elsewhere with strikers Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah already competing for spots within their squad.

Monaco are ready to pay

Arsenal are thought to have set their asking price for Balogun at roughly PS50million; however, this figure could significantly increase if he joins another club considered as competition by them.

Balogun appears unable to break through at the Emirates Stadium due to more senior academy graduates such as Eddie Nketiah. Following a foot injury that forced him out of training sessions for two friendlies this season and Mikel Arteta’s plans, it appears likely he will leave this summer.
