Jonny Evans Signs One-Year Deal With Manchester United

Jonny Evans has signed a one-year contract extension at Manchester United after initially joining on short-term deal earlier this summer. Erik ten Hag has taken advantage of Raphael Varane being out injured to add depth and coverage in defence.

Manchester United were in need of left-back cover after Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia sustained injuries, with Sergio Reguilon of Tottenham being considered surplus to requirements and given permission to fly directly to Manchester for medical consideration by United.

Manchester United have completed a season-long loan deal for Tottenham Hotspur full-back Sergio Reguilon to provide left-back cover after injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, giving Erik ten Hag an extra option at left back.

Jonny Evans has signed back with Manchester United after previously playing there from 2006-2015. The Northern Ireland international has been training with them during this summer on a short-term contract, adding strength and depth to a back line that already includes Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire.

Reguilon’s short-term contract contains a break clause allowing him to return to Tottenham in January. United were also interested in signing Marc Cucurella and Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina but must adhere to financial fair play regulations and maintain spending balance.

Jonny Evans

Manchester United have strengthened their defence with the signing of Jonny Evans on a one-year deal. Evans, 35, joined training sessions after being released by Leicester City after their relegation from the Premier League last term and signed a short-term contract to travel on their pre-season tour where he impressed manager Erik ten Hag.

After injuries sidelined Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia at the start of the season, Manchester United sought to strengthen their defensive options through signing temporary players like Reguilon from Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella as their top target; he could make his Red Devils debut when they host Arsenal this Sunday.

Red Devils defenders Jonny Evans and Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham Hotspur on loan have given Erik ten Hag’s squad some additional depth. Both have impressed during pre-season, adding experience to an already talented squad.

Due to Luke Shaw’s injury, Old Trafford have been forced to enter the transfer market and bring in 26-year-old as a makeshift solution. If Tyrell Malacia becomes unavailable as well, Manchester United have an option of making this deal permanent after this season ends.

Evans was beloved among United supporters during his nine-year spell with the club and could provide invaluable backup to Altay Bayindir and goalkeeper Tom Heaton. However, how much game time he will actually get is unknown as Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire vie for places in their back four.

Erik ten Hag

Erik ten Hag, manager of Manchester United, has signed Northern Ireland international Jonny Evans to a one-year deal after training with them as a free agent. Evans played 198 games with United previously and will provide an invaluable addition to their defensive options with Raphael Varane and Luke Shaw currently injured.

Manchester United have appointed Manchester Reguilon as their short-term solution at left back after Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both went down with injuries. While Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella had initially been their preferred target, Reguilon appears to be taking precedence within their ranks.

He passed a medical on Thursday night and trained with the team on Friday morning, giving him an opportunity to make his debut this weekend when United take on Arsenal at the Theatre of Dreams. It is expected that he will be named in the squad for that game; it will require him to read the game better to help protect his own penalty area while protecting against wingers that try cutting in close.
